The emanation of vapors of liquid compounds occurs rapidly at room temperature.

VOCs include gasoline, industrial compounds such as benzene, solvents such as toluene, xylene and Perchloroethylene (the most widely used solvent for dry cleaning). VOCs emanating from the combustion of gasoline, firewood, coal and natural gas, and solvents, paints, glues and other products used at home or in industry. Emissions from vehicles are a major source of VOC. Many VOCs are hazardous air pollutants. For example, benzene is a carcinogenic effect.
